Rainbow Brite

Sadie's hit the jackpot for learning at her school. They are always doing something different. They've done dinosaurs, trains, Dr. Seuss - this week was rainbows. Lots of art projects dedicated to the color of the day. Blue potatoes for snack. They had a light that projected the image of a rainbow and each kid got a turn having the rainbow on their belly. Ah, it's the small things in life.

Each day had an assigned color. We were able to scrounge for all except yellow, which I had to go buy a shirt. If I were voting, I'd say Sadie was by far the most spirited of the week. Not only in wardrobe but badgering the other kids on their colors (or lack there of). She's going to be the girl with all signatures in the yearbook some day.

Brush & Floss

A few months ago a dentist visited Sadie's classroom for a mini-lesson. Since that day she had been badgering me about going to the dentist. For a good week she'd hand me a phone and say "call the dentist now." I guess that was my hint.

I'm not in love with our insurance (I find them very tough to navigate who's in or out of network - and seem to end up socked with charges down the line). But when a co-worker recommended pediatric dentist Dr. Robin Eliasberg in Framingham - I phoned them up and was reassured they accept my plan.

Sadie woke up today with such excitement, you would have thought we were going to an amusement park. Nope, off to the dentist. I wasn't really sure what to expect - for a 3 year old I'd figure they'd ease them into it. Look at a few teeth, show them the tools, maybe do a brushing. Um, no. It was like a legit adult appointment with plaque scraping, brushing and flossing.
To say Sadie was a saint is an understatement. Hygienist Missy was digging around in her mouth for a good hour (Missy was great - talked her through it and tried to make it as "cool" as possible. I mean check out the shades!). The entire office is custom made for kids (a whole toy closet to go nuts in) - I'm just in love with them.

We strolled out with our heads held high, a new Sleeping Beauty toothbrush, a few stickers and dazzling teeth.

Adios

Twelve whole days. I've never been away from my little girl for so long. I have a work trip that brought me to San Francisco, then Phoenix within days of each other. Rather than flying home for a day in between, I decided to stay out west for the long haul. I'm only on day 7 and it's getting rough. I was half asleep the other day and swore I heard the pitter-patter of her little feet. My heart filled with happiness, quickly followed by sadness when I realized I wasn't home. It was awful.

Alex is such a great dad. He takes care of everything - and probably hates it that I try to micro-manage from 3,000 miles away. I've been getting photos every day of my baby - this one was from "green day" at school. They are doing a segment on Dr. Seuss - feasting on green eggs and ham and celebrating his birthday...it was nice when she came home that night and informed me he was, in fact, dead. Then quizzed me on why people get old and die. I wasn't ready for that heart to heart.
