Dog Beach

It was a beautiful weekend, the first real warm one of the season. If I could have eaten the weather with a spoon, I would. It was that delicious.

We had some long-standing plans with Silly Grandpa and Grandma (and of course Auntie Kendra) for Saturday. Once we knew the weather was going to cooperate, we turned that into a nice walk at Ashland State Park with the dogs and a picnic basket in tow.

From where we park, through the woods, across the dam, and to the dog beach is a good hour - with Sadie slow poke. It was nice and relaxing though. Dog beach is actually a real people beach that hasn't had funding for life guards in a couple of years - so it's been taken over by dogs and their owners. Lots of muddy puppies running around.

I love the faces Leo is making here. In one, it's total Blue Steel from Zoolander, the other is total "enough with the selfies Mom." 

Witch Doctor

It's fun to share parts of our own childhood with Sadie. We often scour YouTube for clips of old songs, cartoons or musical dance numbers for her to watch. We like songs from Annie, the opening number from the Muppets and even a little 'Flash Beagle'.

My favorite cartoon was always The Chipmunks. I found a clip of 'Witch Doctor' online. And while the picture was just a static shot of Alvin, Simon and Theodore - she loved it. Alex still gets weird when he catches me watching the CGI/Jason Lee version of ChipWrecked. Oh well.

No Lie

These were ankle length pants about 10 days ago. Now they are short shorts. The incredible growing baby continues...

Swing Low

First trip to the park! First swing! Leo was totally unimpressed. I find it fascinating how different he is from Sadie even at the start. She's been a dare devil from the start. He's totally the practical, cautious one.

Marathon Madness

The Boston Marathon is forever changed, but it wasn't all a terrible day. Sadie was able to spend lots of quality time with her daddy, cheer for runners and hand out Popsicles  like last year - though it was really too chilly for the runners to appreciate them. The innocence of her experience is a saving grace.

I'm terribly sad for those who were hurt at the finish line, and I'm eternally grateful that my baby was safe at mile 13 in Wellesley - away from the madness.

Four Months

 

Some Bunny

Using the Easter Bunny to steer Sadie into being 'good' didn't work so much this year. The day before, the wheels fell off her wagon. We warned her that the Bunny could possibly come for Leo and leave nothing for her. It just wasn't enough incentive to get her crazy in check. So after feeling guilty, I allowed the Bunny to come. She got a few bits of candy, a Barbie movie she's been yakking about (so much so, I thought she made it up), a couple of books and a Rapunzel toy. Leo made out pretty well too, with a toy, Curious George movie, and Fox in Socks book.

We needed to keep the Sunday festivities close to home, since I was embarking on my first work trip post-Leo (I was going to Orlando that night which made me quite weepy). Our family was invited over to Alex's cousin's house - JP & Christine - in Upton. We had a great dinner, lots of family time and another egg hunt for the kiddies.

Sadie had been planning her Easter outfit for weeks. It was a pink hand-me-down from her cousin Dee that fit perfectly. Pair that up with some brand new bargain priced Hello Kitty shoes from Target - and we have a fashionista. She did all of her own accessorizing. I particularly like the bracelets that go on the elbows. Leo, well he had a fresh suit (courtesy of Nana).
