How'd We Get Here?

My 2010 self would be so disappointment in my lack of blog attention. My 2012 self would even be disappointed in the lack of photos I even take of my children - despite the fact that the camera is built into the phone that I have glued to my person at all times. The only reasoning I can come up with is that, like everyone else, I am living in a winter fog with tunnel vision on some sort of spring. And today's the day. Spring has officially sprung, we now need Mother Nature to just get the memo.

After being stuck indoors for the most part for 5 months, we are all ready to be out. Playing outside with Leo is a little tough at this age since he doesn't have adequate boots or snow pants (and I refuse to by them, even though school keeps 'reminding me'). Plus the fact that he can't walk on uneven surfaces (i.e. piles of snow, ice in our yard). Lately we've been suiting up and going on the porch for a little free play. If he's forced to come inside there's an awful lot of kicking, screaming, and throwing himself at the sliding door. DRA-MA-TIC.

We've also been battling illness. Vomit, fevers, strep throat - we've caught it all. The only one, to date, unscathed is Alex. I count my blessings on that one, because listening to him when he's feeling sick is like nails on a chalk board (love you, dear!).

We've also started Sadie's epic dental appointments. A few months back, during a regular check up, she was diagnosed with cavities between her top and bottom molars on each side (4 areas). We made one attempt of getting an in office filling - we didn't even get her to lay down in the chair, let alone even get a tool in her mouth. This launched our affair with Franciscan Hospital and taking the fun route of sedation dentistry. I can assure you, it's not as peaceful and dreamy as the commercials on the radio make it appear.

Doctors are available only 1 day a month for this type of appointment, so you're lucky to get in. Because of the medication, Sadie can't eat/drink before - so there was a lot of starvation complaining. We get there and she's asked to drink about 2 tablespoons of a bitter oral sedative that she flat out refuses. Cue 5 full sized adults to hold her down, kicking, screaming, spitting, choking, crying - and syringe the meds in her mouth. It was horrific. She gets sleepy, nitrous oxide is applied on top of that - and she's out. Twenty-five minutes later she has a swollen cheek and a new silver tooth. We have to do this 4 more times. God help me.

That's it in a nutshell. Dental hell. Waiting for spring. Germ-ridden house. Oh, and we now only talk about, listen to and watch the movie Frozen.

When can it be summer?
