Sadie's BDFF (best dog friend forever) is our neighbor Gus - full name: Gustin Pedroia. He has a bellowing bark that sounds like he's being hit by a car - and Sadie's ears perk up as soon as she hears it. She knows her friend is outside.
Sadie likes to visit to give Gus taps on the head, but really likes to just help herself around the O'Leary's yard, walk through flowerbeds, pick up rocks and rummage in the garage. Kind of embarrassing. They are wonderfully accepting of Sadie's one-track mind.
The past week has been record-breakingly hot and humid. Sans shorts, Sadie went to see Gus and help him pant out his sweat. Doesn't work as well for little girls.
And now the big news....
Both Alex and I vowed that we wouldn't get another dog after Portia, at least for a long while...but call us liars. The is the sad photo that sold me. Look at those eyes!

Some call it fate, but Sadie the Dog came to us on a silver platter. She's a 9 month old, recently spayed, microchipped, FREE puggle. The only hitch - we had to change her name. So...meet Maggie!

It's good to hear the pitter-patter of puppy feet on the hardwoods again. I forgot how much effort a new routine takes...but so far so good. Maggie's a good puppy, has boundless energy and loves a belly rub. The cats took one look at her and felt right at ease. They just go with whatever we bring home these days.

Sadie didn't want the excitement of her new dog to end last night. She cried in bed for an hour and forty-five minutes. When I'd go in to check on her she'd stop crying, lay down and whisper 'ruff ruff'.
